A RENAL STONE...THAT WAS NOT!

 Necrosed and calcified papilla mimic stones


 Elderly

 Long standing diabetic and liver cirrhosis

 Renal stones on ultrasound

 CT Appearance:

 The calculi show rim calcification with central lucency These actually     represent necrosed and "sloughed off" papilla, which over the time get calcium  deposits and mimic stones. 

 Note chronic changes in the kidney

 On CT Urography, such patients will shows contrast collection at the site of   sloughed papilla.
