Importance of HU Value within the collecting system in an obstructed kidney

An obstructed kidney due to a ureteric calculus is usually having sterile urine. However, it may be infected and one of the indication to intervene by urologist.

The HU value can be increased also due to hemorrhage.

Case:

Right VUJ calculus measuring 2 mm is causing obstruction. The dilated renal pelvis shows increased density of the urine (42). This is probably due to infection.

Follow up:

Patient was taken up for ureteroscopy. The urine was turbid from right side, without frank pus
